The Chair Lift Operator at Cataloochee Ski Area is responsible for safely and efficiently operating assigned chairlifts, ensuring smooth uphill transport for guests and employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet guests in a positive, friendly manner and assist them in safely loading and unloading chairlifts and carpet lifts.
  • Provide instruction on proper lift safety and ensure guests enter, ride, and exit the lift securely.
  • Assist customers with any special needs, making every effort to accommodate them.
  • Maintain staging areas by clearing snow and maintaining a safe environment around the lift entrances and exits (including shoveling, raking, and lifting).
  • Stay within the assigned chairlift area to monitor guests and equipment.
  • Perform daily lift testing and inspection before opening to ensure operational safety.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the resort, including housekeeping tasks and helping other departments as needed.
  • Transport and retrieve Cataloochee equipment throughout the resort (e.g., lodge, group buildings, rental shops, parking lots).
  • Complete daily opening and closing procedures, lift logs, and incident reports as required.
  • Set up and break down loading/unloading areas for lifts.
  • Train new or less experienced staff in lift operation procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • MUST be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to work outdoors in cold, inclement weather, often in and around chairlifts and snowmaking equipment.
  • Able to communicate clearly using radios and telephones.
  • Physically capable of climbing, hiking, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, and standing.
  • Able to lift 50 or more pounds as needed.

Compensation: $14.00 - $15.50 per hour
